Leaders cut ribbon at Liberty Lofts in Sibley Square

Rochester, N.Y. – Local and state leaders marked the completion of new housing units in downtown Rochester Thursday.

The Liberty Lofts are located at Sibley Square and includes units for middle-income households that might not qualify for affordable housing.

The opening of the 104-apartment Liberty Lofts marks the finish of a years-long effort to redevelop part of the Sibley Building. The lofts occupy two floors of the building.

A ribbon-cutting was held Thursday to mark the occasion.

Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul says the Sibley Building not only represents Rochester’s past. She says its revitalization represents the city’s future.

“To have a building that’s the biggest building in this city to be abandoned, it just almost taunted us. And finally, now, that same building inspires us – and that’s just in a five-year period, and that’s extraordinary.”
